The close-coupled toilet is made of vitreous china – a combination of white clay and finely ground minerals.

The functional surfaces (visible and in contact with water) are coated with a special glaze that enhances the protection created during the firing process. This glaze also gives the familiar brilliant white (or coloured) finish to washbasins, toilets, and other ceramic products.
